Artistic Director
Hayley Varhol, MME is a multi-instrumentalist who has been performing and teaching in the greater Philadelphia area for more than 15 years. She has a masters degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, and a bachelors degree in Music Education from Temple University where she studied bass trombone with Tyrone Breuninger (formerly of the Philadelphia Orchestra). After eight years as Director of Instrumental Music at the William Penn Charter School, Hayley transitioned to a full-time performer and organizer. She currently works with the West Philadelphia Orchestra as a baritonist, board member, and Director of Educational Programming. She performs in a number of professional and community ensembles, including the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra, and you might also spot her donning a dirndl around town while playing trombone with Polkadelphia. Hayley has a long history with the Philadelphia Freedom Band, as she was an active member and conductor from 2008 to 2011. She is very pleased and proud to be welcomed back for her second tenure as Artistic Director.
